What a repair can’t fix
We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:
- A crack that leaks water
- A crack through the bowl or trap
- A loose pan or leaking seal (that’s a plumbing job)
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
Surfaces we repair
- Vitreous china
- Cisterns & lids
- Pedestals
- Porcelain
- Toilet pans
Should you replace it?
A new toilet needs a plumber and possibly new flooring, and the matching cistern may be discontinued. Repairing the chip keeps the toilet you have. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Can I fix it myself?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
For landlords and businesses
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.
What we do, step by step
You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It typically takes one to two hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.
- We start by cleaning and drying the damage.
- Missing material is filled and rebuilt to the original shape.
- We sand it flush.
- The glaze is colour matched and finished.
- Finally we polish it into the surrounding glaze.
Preparing for the visit
- Let the surface dry out before the visit
- Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
Getting a price
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.
Advice
What toilet chip repair costs
Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:
- What the surface is made of
- Access to the area
- Whether we combine several jobs
- The colour and finish to match
We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Grain. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
How to get a fixed price
Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:
- A wider photo showing the whole toilet
- Something in shot to show the size
- The material, if you know it
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.
