Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Watch the edges with heavy pans
  • Never put hot pans down directly
  • Do not leave spills to soak in
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards are your best protection.

A chip on an edge can grow, and water can reach the core of laminate. An early repair prevents it.

Honest limits

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath
  • Severe heat marks in quartz

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Solid wood
  • Laminate
  • Quartz
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Solid surface

Solid surface materials are uniform throughout, so marks can frequently be sanded and refinished.

Granite and stone

Granite and stone chip at edges and cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Advice

Why repair rather than replace?

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing a section takes time and money. Repairing it is a few hours’ work. Our worktop repair starts from £95. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
