What a repair cannot fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Failed support under the worktop
  • Severe heat marks in quartz

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Laminate
  • Quartz
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble
  • Solid wood

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a few hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Different materials, different repairs

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Quartz

Quartz worktops are mostly stone set in resin. We fill and polish chipped edges to match the sheen.

Why repair rather than replace?

Even if you could get the same laminate, it may not match after years of light and use. We match the repair to your worktop as it is today. Our worktop repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Don’t knock pans against the edge
  • Clean spills straight away
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Re-oil timber worktops

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Even stone and quartz can be marked by heat.

Damage near the sink is worth repairing quickly, as water can get in and cause swelling.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Questions from Braco

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

Can a quartz edge be fixed?

Yes. Chips on edges and around the sink are very common repairs, matched and polished.

Do you come to Braco?

We do. We send a technician to Braco for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.
