Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Oil wooden tops regularly
  • Don’t let water sit on joints
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Keep a trivet by the hob

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, especially on laminate and wood.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use particularly around the sink. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.

The hard part of a worktop repair is matching the pattern. Colour, flecks and veining are recreated by hand. Common call-outs are for chips near the sink and chipped corners, in quartz, granite & marble and solid wood.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Questions from Gold Tops

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote and the next dates we have.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you cover the entire of Newport?

The entire UK, including all of Newport. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Different materials, different repairs

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface bonded to a board. Damage is filled and the pattern painted in by hand.

Common problems we fix in Gold Tops

Worktops take more punishment than anything else in the kitchen. Hot pans leave burns, knives leave scratches, and heavy pans chip the edges.

10 questions to ask before you book

Should you replace it?

Replacing a worktop means removing the old one, cutting and fitting a new one and refitting the sink and hob, and matching the rest of the kitchen can be hard. Repairing the damage leaves the worktop in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What you get with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

What we do, step by step

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
