What worktop repair costs

Prices start from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The type of damage
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Icelton. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Email us a photo of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Icelton, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes a morning or an afternoon, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. We recreate the pattern, flecks or grain.
  5. We finish it to match the sheen and leave it to cure.

Common problems we fix in Icelton

Most worktop damage takes a second: a hot pan set straight down, or a heavy pan catching the edge. Scratches build up more slowly, from knives and grit.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A damaged sink edge
  • Burns from hot pans
  • A chipped quartz edge
  • Chips caused during installation

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A cracked stone top that’s unsupported
  • A top that moves on its units
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Repairing versus replacing in Icelton

Replacing even one length of worktop means templating, cutting, fitting and often a new sink and hob connection. A repair is a few hours with everything left in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Do not cut directly on the worktop
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Wipe up spills quickly

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Even stone and quartz can be marked by heat.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.
