Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Keep a trivet by the hob
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Watch the edges with heavy pans
  • Re-oil timber worktops

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

Don’t leave damage by the sink, because water gets in and swells the board.

Landlord and trade work in Mavesyn Ridware

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will arrange it.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Different materials, different repairs

Quartz

Quartz worktops are mostly stone set in resin. We fill and polish chipped edges.

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated by hand.

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Repair or replace in Mavesyn Ridware?

A new worktop means taking out the damaged top, cutting and fitting a new one and refitting the sink and hob, and matching the rest of the kitchen can be hard. Repairing the damage leaves the worktop in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Common questions in Mavesyn Ridware

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Can you match granite flecks?

We match colour, flecks and veining by hand, so the repair blends into the surface.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Do I need to clear the kitchen?

Only around the repair. The rest of the kitchen stays usable.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Allow a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. A filler that suits the material goes in, and missing edges are rebuilt.
  4. The colour and pattern are matched by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What worktop repair costs

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Mavesyn Ridware. The price reflects:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Send photos for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Send us a picture of the damage and one of the entire item, and tell us you’re in Mavesyn Ridware, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
