How we handle worktop repair in Newgate Street

Each type of worktop needs a different approach: laminate is filled and patterned, quartz and stone are filled and polished, and wood is sanded and refinished. We always aim for a repair that blends in. We work on granite & marble, laminate and solid surface (such as Corian), and people most often call us about chips on edges and corners and cuts and scratches in the surface.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Newgate Street and across Hertfordshire.

How the visit works

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a morning or an afternoon. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First, we check the damage and the finish we need to match.
  2. Burnt or loose material is cut back.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

Related advice

Swollen or badly damaged laminate may need replacing. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is normally far better value. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Clean spills right away

Always use a trivet and chopping board, wipe up spills promptly, and keep wooden tops oiled.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. Repairing it early stops that.

Newgate Street questions

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

What your worktop is made of matters

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so scratches and burns can frequently be sanded out and refinished.

Wood

Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, and burns and dents repaired.

What worktop repair costs

Repairs from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Newgate Street. The price depends on:

  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What kind of damage it is

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One picture of the entire worktop
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

What we cannot put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Through cracks in stone that is moving
  • Discolouration deep in quartz
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.
