Repairing versus replacing in Patching

Stone and quartz have to be templated and cut, so replacing one section is a big job. A repair takes a few hours. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Patching clients choose us

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

How we handle worktop repair in Patching

Worktops are expensive to replace and hard to match, especially in an L-shaped or long kitchen. Repairing the damage keeps your kitchen as it is. We regularly repair solid wood, granite & marble and solid surface (such as Corian), and common reasons people get in touch are dents and gouges and knife marks.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Severe heat marks in quartz
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen
  • A cracked stone top that’s unsupported

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Questions from Patching

Will the repair match a patterned worktop?

Yes, the pattern is built up by hand.

How do I book?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Do not let water sit on joints

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use. An earlier repair is a smaller repair.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Patching. The price reflects:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Quotes from your photos

You can take the photos on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
