The process
Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a few hours, depending on the damage from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.
- The area around the damage is protected.
- We clean the damage and remove anything loose.
- We fill it and level it with the worktop.
- The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
- The repair is sealed and polished to match.
How to prepare
- Keep a parking space free if you can
- Let us know which floor the room is on
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Advice
Pennygate questions
Do you repair quartz?
Yes, frequently. The repair is colour-matched and polished to the quartz’s finish.
What does worktop repair cost?
Prices start from £95. We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item and your postcode.
Do you cover the entire of Norfolk?
Everywhere in the UK, Pennygate included. Travel is included in the price.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.
How soon can you come?
We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.
What happens after I send photos?
We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.
What we can’t put right
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:
- Water-swollen laminate
- A worktop that has moved because its support has failed
- Severe heat marks in quartz
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
Materials we repair
- Solid surface (such as Corian)
- Laminate
- Quartz
- Granite & marble
- Solid wood
Keeping it looking good
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Do not cut directly on the worktop
- Dry around the sink and joints
- Always use a trivet for hot pans
- Take care with heavy pans near edges
Leave the repaired area free of hot or heavy items until it has cured. After that, trivets and chopping boards are your best protection.
Don’t leave damage by the sink, as water can get in and cause swelling.
Repair or replace in Pennygate?
Even a single new length of worktop means templating, cutting and refitting the sink and hob. A repair is a few hours with everything left in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Common problems we fix in Pennygate
The worst damage frequently happens in a moment: a hot pan set straight down, or a heavy pan catching the edge. Scratches build up gradually from knives and grit.
Look out for these signs:
- Burns from hot pans
- Damage to a stone worktop
- Snagging damage in a new kitchen
- Gouges in the surface

Repairs by material
Laminate
A laminate worktop is a thin decorative layer on a board. We fill damage and paint in the pattern by hand.
Solid surface
Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can often be sanded and refinished.
