Worktop repair for Portway homes

Repair or replace: which is better?

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing a section takes time and money. A repair takes a few hours. Our worktop repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

About our worktop repair in Portway

Each type of worktop needs a different approach: we fill and pattern laminate, fill and polish quartz and stone, and sand and refinish wood. The goal is always a repair that blends in. We regularly repair granite & marble, solid wood and solid surface (such as Corian), and the jobs we see most are cuts and scratches in the surface and dents and gouges.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Keep wood oiled
  • Use a chopping board

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, especially on laminate and wood.

Do not leave damage by the sink, as water can get in and cause swelling.

How it works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to a few hours, including clearing up.

  1. We protect the rest of the kitchen.
  2. We clean the damage and remove anything loose.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. We seal and polish it to the right sheen.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

What worktop repair costs

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • A wider photo showing the entire worktop
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the worktop, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Common problems we fix in Portway

Cut-outs for the sink and hob are the weakest parts, so cracks and chips often start there.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A heat mark or burn
  • Gouges in the surface
  • Damage to a stone worktop
  • Chips near the sink

Before you book anyone

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • When it can be used again
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Repairs by material

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Wood

Timber tops can be sanded and refinished, with burns and dents put right.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • A cracked stone top that’s unsupported
  • Water-swollen laminate

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Quartz
  • Laminate
  • Solid wood
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
