How we handle worktop repair in The Grove

Matching a pattern is the skilled part of a worktop repair. Colour, flecks and veining are recreated by hand. Common call-outs are for chips on edges and corners and damage around the sink cut-out, in quartz, solid surface (such as Corian) and laminate.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, a repair is the better value. Our worktop repair starts from £95. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Questions from The Grove

Can a quartz edge be fixed?

Yes. We repair quartz chips regularly, matched and polished.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Can you match the pattern on my worktop?

Yes. We recreate the pattern by hand so it blends in.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

What happens after I send pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Do you come to The Grove?

We do. Repair technicians travel to The Grove from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

What your worktop is made of matters

Quartz

Quartz is tough, though edges can chip. We fill chips with a tinted resin and polish them.

Wood

Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, and burns and dents repaired.

The process

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. The area is filled and shaped.
  4. We recreate the pattern, flecks or grain.
  5. We finish it to match the sheen and leave it to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear the area around the damage

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Failed support under the worktop
  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Solid wood
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble
  • Laminate
  • Quartz

How to care for the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Don’t let water sit on joints
  • Clean spills right away
  • Do not cut directly on the worktop
  • Always use a trivet for hot pans

Use chopping boards and trivets, wipe spills immediately, and keep wooden tops oiled.

Edge chips can get bigger, and on laminate, water can get into the core. Repairing it early stops that.
