Each type of worktop needs a different approach: we fill and pattern laminate, fill and polish quartz and stone, and sand and refinish wood. The goal is always a repair that blends in. What your worktop is made of matters

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated.

Granite and stone

Granite and stone chip at edges and cut-outs. We fill and polish the repair to match the stone.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is generally far better value. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

The Rigg questions

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work. It fades as everything cures.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, The Rigg included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Are there extra charges for The Rigg?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Dry around the sink and joints
  • Watch the edges with heavy pans
  • Use a chopping board
  • Keep wood oiled

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, especially on laminate and wood.

Damage near the sink is worth repairing quickly, because water gets in and swells the board.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Severe heat marks in quartz
  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Granite & marble
  • Quartz
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Laminate
  • Solid wood

How it works

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes a morning or an afternoon in most cases. The room is left tidy.

  1. We assess the damage and the worktop material.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. We fill the damage with a suitable filler and build up any lost edge.
  4. We match the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

How to prepare

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Work for landlords and builders

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
