Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Ardtun

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

People usually call us when they notice one of these:

  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

Bath re-enamelling in Ardtun, done in place

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s a coloured bath you want in white and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Do you cover Ardtun?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Ardtun and the rest of Argyll and Bute. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Can you price it without visiting?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole UK, including Ardtun and the rest of Argyll and Bute. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Ardtun.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • How much damage there is
  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What a repair can’t fix

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

What we do, step by step

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a full day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

How to get a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
