Bath re-enamelling in Bacup

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Bacup

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Whether it’s several chips and rust patches and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can normally put it right.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Bacup and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Repair or replace: which is better?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What a repair can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale cannot build up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

The process

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What happens next?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.
