Bath re-enamelling near Besford

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How hard the colour is to match

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Besford. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone photos are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Most customers in Besford get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Besford

We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We’re frequently asked to fix worn patches where water runs and sits and a coating lifting around the plughole, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

What you get with us

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

See our prices page or bath cost comparison.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which normally takes most of the day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Besford

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Besford

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Wear marks under the taps

Our hiring checklist

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.
