Bath re-enamelling in Bettws Cedewain, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Typical jobs include chips and rust in more than one place and worn patches where water runs and sits, on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Bettws Cedewain: your questions answered

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We come back with a fixed quote. You are under no obligation.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit normally costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Repair or replace in Bettws Cedewain?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job normally takes most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Getting a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

When to call us in Bettws Cedewain

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
