About our bath re-enamelling in Booth Bank
Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We regularly repair acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are staining under the taps and around the waste and a roll-top that’s seen better days.
You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

What happens on the day
Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.
- The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.
Preparing for the visit
- Open a window if you can
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
- Clear the area around the damage
Getting a price
For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
Related advice
When we’d advise against a repair
It helps to know what we can’t do too:
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
Materials we repair
- Cast iron baths
- Acrylic baths
- Pressed steel baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
Can I fix it myself?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Keeping it looking good
How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Questions from Booth Bank
Are you accredited?
We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
Is the work guaranteed?
All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
Do you charge for travel?
There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.
Will you leave a mess?
Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.
Can you fix a peeling bath coating?
Generally, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send photos.
What happens after I send photos?
We come back with a fixed quote. You are under no obligation.
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.
When to call us in Booth Bank
Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.
If you can see any of these, send us a photo:
- A roll-top that’s seen better days
- A coloured bath you want in white
- Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
- Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
What your quote should include
- A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
- How to look after the finish
- If travel is included in the price
- What preparation is included
Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.
