Bath re-enamelling in Buxton

Landlords, agents and businesses in Buxton

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Bath re-enamelling in Buxton, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. If you are dealing with a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and wear marks under the taps, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Buxton?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Most people contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

10 questions to ask before booking

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

What a repair cannot fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths

FAQs for Buxton

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Buxton. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

What information do you need?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

How the visit works

We work cleanly and quietly. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

What you get with us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
