Bath re-enamelling at your home in Clachan Seil

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are lots of chips and rust spots and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Before and after: an old basin refinished to bright white

When a repair isn’t the answer

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Clachan Seil?

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

Repair or replace in Clachan Seil?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and usually a day, and the bath is usable the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
