How we handle bath re-enamelling in Cooper's Green

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We’re frequently asked to fix stains that won’t shift and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, in pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

When a repair is not the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

What we do, step by step

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It normally takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Common questions in Cooper's Green

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Is there a call-out fee?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Normally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

What affects the price in Cooper's Green

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Cooper's Green. What changes the price is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material and finish
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is

We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Work for landlords and builders

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.
