Bath re-enamelling for Coulter homes

How it works

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Advice

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Coulter

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. We work on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays, and people most often call us about chips and rust in more than one place and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Coulter as everywhere else we work.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The type of damage
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote the same day in most cases.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we work on in Coulter

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Coulter

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

How to compare quotes

Questions from Coulter

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Do you cover Coulter?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Coulter from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Will there be fumes?

Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Repairing versus replacing in Coulter

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Have chips seen to early

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
