Trusted bath re-enamelling in Crawley

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Crawley

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Our repair technicians work on pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are wear marks under the taps and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

When to call us in Crawley

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Wear marks under the taps

What your quote should include

  • What preparation is included
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How to care for the finish
  • How your room will be protected

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Crawley questions

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do you charge for travel?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Should you replace it?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Re-enamelling takes one technician and typically one day, with the bath ready the following day. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.
