Bath re-enamelling for Crowlas homes

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to a full day.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Crowlas

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is typically the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people contact us are brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Crowlas?

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

What your quote should include

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the price covers travel

Choosing a repair company

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Landlord and trade work in Crowlas

For anyone letting property in or around Crowlas, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
