Bath re-enamelling at your home in Drybridge

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. Typical jobs include chips and rust in more than one place and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee.

Drybridge questions

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before you book.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material

A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Any details about the material
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We’ll say right away whether it can be repaired.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.
