What we are called out for in Edithmead
By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
- An outdated colour you’d like to change
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

Bath re-enamelling in Edithmead without replacing anything
We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We regularly repair acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are thin, worn enamel in places and a roll-top that’s seen better days.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Edithmead as everywhere else we work.

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
Roll-top and period baths
Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
What we cannot put right
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
- A metal bath with a through crack
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Materials we repair
- Acrylic baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
Keeping it looking good
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
- Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
- Do not leave a chip unrepaired
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
Common questions in Edithmead
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.
Are you accredited?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Is there a call-out fee?
We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.
Can landlords book you?
Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.
Will you leave a mess?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.
Do you cover the entire of Somerset?
All of Somerset, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.
How long is the bath unusable?
Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.
Can I fix it myself?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
Repairing versus replacing in Edithmead
Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Prices and what affects them
Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:
- Whether we combine several jobs
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
- How easy the damage is to reach
- The size and number of damaged areas
Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
Quotes from your pictures
Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:
- A wider photo showing the whole bath
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
Email us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your TA9 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.
What we do, step by step
From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.
- The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.
Before we arrive
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
- Have a window or extractor fan available
Ask for a price
You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
