How to care for the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Bath re-enamelling in Sydenham without replacing anything

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Our repair technicians work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are staining under the taps and around the waste and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Repairing versus replacing in Sydenham

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Sydenham questions

What areas do you cover?

All of Somerset, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.
