Bath re-enamelling for Etchingwood homes

About our bath re-enamelling in Etchingwood

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Whether it’s an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, we can normally put it right, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in East Sussex.

When a repair is not the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

FAQs for Etchingwood

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you cover the whole of East Sussex?

All of East Sussex, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Do you come to Etchingwood?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Etchingwood. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Etchingwood

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Who will actually do the work
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • What protection goes down before work starts

Choosing a repair company

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Should you replace it?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How the visit works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
