Bath re-enamelling in Ewenni

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Bath re-enamelling in Ewenni, done in place

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We regularly repair cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and people most often call us about several chips and rust patches and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

What a repair can’t fix

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

The process

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes the best part of a day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Ensure the area is dry

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed price

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Repairing versus replacing in Ewenni

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
