Bath re-enamelling in Exley, done in place

We do not move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. It usually takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are lots of chips and rust spots and worn patches where water runs and sits.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, so limescale cannot build up.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Common questions in Exley

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Will the bath be moved?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We will confirm timings when we quote.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath usually involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Prices start from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for the best part of a day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Getting a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

  • Basins & shower trays

What we are called out for in Exley

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What preparation is included

Our hiring checklist

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There is no charge for travel to Exley. The price depends on:

  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The type of damage

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send pictures for a quote

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Natural light rather than flash

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.
