Bath re-enamelling in Fixby without replacing anything

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. We are frequently asked to fix enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a roll-top that’s seen better days, in acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Calderdale.

Roll-top bath being refinished by a Surface Doctor technician

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Repairing versus replacing in Fixby

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing typically wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why book with us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Most jobs done in one visit

See our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Doing more than one item at once

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

Two or three clear pictures are typically enough. It helps if you send:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

The process

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

If you manage property in Fixby, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we will price them together.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Questions from Fixby

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We give you timings with the quote.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You will get a fixed quote back, plus dates. There’s no obligation to book.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Honest limits

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
