Our bath repair service in HD2
A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and you can generally bathe again the following day. You will not need a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. We work on pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are snagging damage from a refit and cracks in an acrylic bath.
When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes a few hours, depending on the damage. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the following day.
What you will pay
Our bath repair starts from £95. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.
Why book with us
- No need to remove anything
- Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
- Free fixed quotes from pictures
- Most jobs done in one visit
Ask for a price
To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.
Landmarks near Birkby
Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Spinks Nest pub, The Church of St Cuthbert and Greenhead College, among other places. The nearest railway station is Huddersfield station, roughly 1.1 miles south-east. Further afield, we also cover the area around Automobilia Transport Museum (1.2 miles south-east) and Kingsgate Shopping Centre (1.4 miles south-east). Open spaces near Birkby include Castle Hill.
DIY kit or professional repair?
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.
Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.
When a repair isn’t the answer
To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:
- A steel bath rusted through
- A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
What we’re called out for in HD2
The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.
It’s worth getting a quote if you see:
- Damage beneath the taps
- A cracked acrylic bath
- A kit repair that didn’t last
- Chips along the edge of the bath
Repairing versus replacing
Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and disposing of the old one. A repair fixes just the damaged area in a single visit.
What your quote should include
- How long the guarantee is and what it covers
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
- Whether a trained technician does the job
- A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
Your questions about bath repair in HD2
Do you hold any accreditations?
Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
What happens if you find more damage?
We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.
Will I be able to see the repair?
We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.
Will there be a smell?
There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.
Do I need to be at home?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.
