Bath re-enamelling in Fraddam

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Fraddam

We do not move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the next day. We are often asked to fix stains that won’t shift and worn patches where water runs and sits, in Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath usually involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take the best part of a day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

What we cannot put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Fraddam

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

10 questions to ask before you book

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Work for landlords and builders

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.
