Book bath re-enamelling in Gairloch

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It typically takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Bath re-enamelling in Gairloch without replacing anything

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Common call-outs are for stains that won’t shift and an old resurfacing that’s failing, across basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Gairloch and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Gairloch

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • An old resurfacing that is failing

Questions to ask before you book

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Aftercare advice
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

10 questions to ask before you book

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What a repair cannot fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A bath that is rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How much damage there is
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • One picture of the whole bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any details about the material

To get a price, send two or three photos using our quote form or ring us. We will say right away if a repair is the right fix.

Repairing versus replacing in Gairloch

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.

Questions from Gairloch

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Is there a smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
