How we handle bath re-enamelling in Glazebrook

We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We work on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are worn patches where water runs and sits and a coloured bath you want in white.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Glazebrook customers choose us

  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • Colour-matched on site
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Glazebrook

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Glazebrook questions

How long is the bath unusable?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we’re there, the work takes most of the day for most jobs. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Advice

What affects the price in Glazebrook

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • What the surface is made of
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Access to the area

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Glazebrook. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Common problems we fix in Glazebrook

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Common reasons people in Glazebrook contact us include:

  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A coloured bath you want in white

Comparing quotes

  • How to look after the finish
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What preparation is included
  • When it can be used again

How to compare quotes

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Store bottles off the bath

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale cannot build up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
