Bath re-enamelling in Gosberton Clough without replacing anything

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. If you are dealing with a peeling or bubbling previous coating and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Common problems we fix in Gosberton Clough

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean

Before you book anyone

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How soon you can use it again

Our hiring checklist

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow the best part of a day. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the damage

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Gosberton Clough: your questions answered

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A bath split right through the body

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
