Materials and what they mean for the repair
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
How to get a price
For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.
Related advice
Prices and what affects them
Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:
- How much damage there is
- What the surface is made of
- Access to the area
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.
How to get a fixed price
You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- One picture of the entire bath
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- What it’s made of, if you know
To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Yes, we often do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Common problems we fix in Grafham
Frequently the bath has just had decades of use, and only the surface is worn. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.
The things clients normally mention when they call include:
- Chips and rust in more than one place
- An outdated colour you’d like to change
- Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
- A peeling or bubbling previous coating
Before booking anyone
- Whether a trained technician does the job
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
- What prep work is covered
- What happens if they find more damage
Landlords, agents and businesses in Grafham
If you manage property in Grafham, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
What we can’t put right
Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- A bath split right through the body
If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
Surfaces we repair
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
- Acrylic baths
- Pressed steel baths
