Repairing versus replacing in Greenside

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Prices start from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

About our bath re-enamelling in Greenside

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. Common call-outs are for a roll-top that’s seen better days and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, across basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Honest limits

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly. Protection goes down first, then the work takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Landlords, agents and businesses in Greenside

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed price from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • How much damage there is
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send pictures for a quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We will say immediately whether it can be repaired.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Never use suction bath mats

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
