Bath re-enamelling in Hare Street without replacing anything
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. If you’re dealing with a peeling or bubbling previous coating and an outdated colour you’d like to change, we can help.
Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Hare Street and across Essex.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.
What we are called out for in Hare Street
Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.
You may need us if you’ve spotted:
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
- Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

Hare Street: your questions answered
Is there any odour?
There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.
Is there a guarantee?
All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
How soon can you come?
Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.
Is there a smell?
Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.
What information do you need?
Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?
Yes. We can do the inside and outside.
What happens once I’ve sent photos?
We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Aftercare tips
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
- Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Should you replace it?
If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
The process
We turn up when we said we would and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the day after.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
How to get a price
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.
Advice
Honest limits
Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:
- A bath that is rusted through
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
