About our bath re-enamelling in Highwood
Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. If you are dealing with enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can typically put it right.
You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Should you replace it?
There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

The process
On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a full day, including clearing up.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
- We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
- The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
- Point us to the nearest place to park
- Let us know which floor the room is on
How to get a price

Advice
Common questions in Highwood
Do you come to Highwood?
We do. Repair technicians travel to Highwood from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.
Is there any odour?
Expect a mild smell while we are working.
Do you cover the entire of Staffordshire?
Everywhere in the UK, Highwood included. Travel is included in the price.
Will the price change on the day?
If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.
Can you do the outside of a roll-top?
Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.
Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Highwood
Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.
Send us a photo if you notice any of these:
- Several chips and rust patches
- Wear marks under the taps
- A roll-top that’s seen better days
- Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off

- Whether the colour is mixed to match
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
Keeping it looking good
Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Have chips seen to early
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
What affects the price in Highwood
Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. These are the things that affect it:
- The material and finish
- How many items we do on one visit
- What kind of damage it is
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Highwood. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
How to get a fixed quote
Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:
- The material, if you know it
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
