About our bath re-enamelling in Hiltingbury

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the day after. Whether it’s brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and chips and rust in more than one place, we can help.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Hiltingbury: your questions answered

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the next day. We give you timings with the quote.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • What the surface is made of
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed price

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A picture taken from further back

If you are in Hiltingbury and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why Hiltingbury clients choose us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hiltingbury

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Questions to ask before you book

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • How soon you can use it again

Our hiring checklist

How it works

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. You can expect it to take a full day, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage

Getting a price

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
