How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hydestile

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Whether it’s chips and rust in more than one place and wear marks under the taps, we can help, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Hydestile: your questions answered

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hydestile

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

How to compare quotes

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There is no charge for travel to Hydestile. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How much damage there is
  • Access to the area

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
