Bath re-enamelling in Kitt Green, done in place

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the whole bath is tired rather than one spot. Whether it’s a peeling or bubbling previous coating and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can help, on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and acrylic baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Should you replace it?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Kitt Green

  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Kitt Green, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What happens on the day

We work cleanly and quietly. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Common problems we fix in Kitt Green

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

Questions to ask before booking

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How soon you can use it again

Our hiring checklist

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Kitt Green: your questions answered

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
