Bath re-enamelling for Little Common homes

Bath re-enamelling in Little Common without replacing anything

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is typically the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a coloured bath you want in white.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A bath split right through the body

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths

What we’re called out for in Little Common

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

People normally call us when they notice one of these:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

Questions to ask before booking

  • What preparation is included
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • How long it needs to cure

10 questions to ask before you book

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Common questions in Little Common

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Essex. Just include your postcode and we will confirm dates.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

What affects the price in Little Common

Prices start from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any details about the material

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Getting a price

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
