About our bath re-enamelling in Long Whatton

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, with the bath ready to use the following day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. If you’re dealing with wear marks under the taps and stains that won’t shift, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

Common questions in Long Whatton

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

Do you cover the entire of Leicestershire?

Across the UK, and that includes Long Whatton. Prices do not change with location.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

What affects the price in Long Whatton

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • How much damage there is

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from pictures

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Any details about the material

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job the same day in most cases.

When we’d advise against a repair

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
