Bath re-enamelling for Magdalene homes

Magdalene questions

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you cover Magdalene?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Magdalene from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Magdalene

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, and you can use the bath the following day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. We are often asked to fix enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and wear marks under the taps, on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Magdalene. What changes the price is:

  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work
  • Doing more than one item at once

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

To get a price, send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We will say right away if a repair is the right fix.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job usually takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and typically a day. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Magdalene

Landlords, agents and businesses in Magdalene

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Magdalene as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

When to call us in Magdalene

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • How soon you can use it again

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
