Should you replace it?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Mark. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What you get with us

  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • No need to remove anything

Bath re-enamelling in Mark without replacing anything

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We are frequently asked to fix wear marks under the taps and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, in basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Mark and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish
  • Whether we combine several jobs

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Most customers in Mark get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Advice

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

When a repair is not the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Common questions in Mark

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Care for it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.
