DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Bath re-enamelling in Market Harborough, done in place

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Our technicians work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about several chips and rust patches and wear marks under the taps.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Should you replace it?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day for most jobs. We leave the room clean.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

What a repair cannot fix

A repair is not always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Landlord and trade work in Market Harborough

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
