About our bath re-enamelling in Martin's Moss

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Typical jobs include thin, worn enamel in places and an outdated colour you’d like to change, in Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Martin's Moss and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take most of the day. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

What affects the price in Martin's Moss

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Any details about the material
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Will the new finish last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

How to care for the repair

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

What we’re called out for in Martin's Moss

Enamel wears gradually. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • What prep work is covered

How to compare quotes

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
