Bath re-enamelling for Muirhouse homes

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Muirhouse

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Whether it’s a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can usually put it right, on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and acrylic baths alike.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Muirhouse and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

How the visit works

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we’re there, the work takes the best part of a day for most jobs. The room is left tidy.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

How to get a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • No extra charge for your area

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

FAQs for Muirhouse

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Are there extra charges for Muirhouse?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Muirhouse included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What happens after I send photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. You are under no obligation.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

When to call us in Muirhouse

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Wear marks under the taps
