Bath re-enamelling for Edinburgh Waterfront homes

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

About our bath re-enamelling in Edinburgh Waterfront

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common call-outs are for an outdated colour you’d like to change and thin, worn enamel in places, in Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will sort it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job normally takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Edinburgh Waterfront. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Edinburgh Waterfront

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Edinburgh Waterfront included. Travel is included in the price.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • The material and finish
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The colour and finish to match

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Any details about the material
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Upload a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Edinburgh Waterfront, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
